Kitchen in Salt Lake City

Im back with a board of my latest kitchen design! This time it was for a home up in The Avenues for a Miss Nielson. She was so much fun to work with and has a great personality. We designed this kitchen just for her and with how much she loves to cook! It's even more pleasing when I'm designing a kitchen for someone who LOVES to cook! Miss Nielson is about 40 years old and was telling me her favorites such as yellow is her favorite color, contemporary is her favorite style, cats are her preferred pets, etc. After our pleasant meeting I got right away to work on the design for her kitchen. I kept yellow in my head as I was thinking it though and in the end it all pulled together very nicely.

Ebony Stained Cork flooring, not only is it eco-friendly but cork flooring provides a soft comfort to your feet when you are standing for long periods while cooking

Lighting:
Provided from the Tom Dixon collection, I think it really pulls the yellow together nicely

With the layout and the products we chose Miss Nielson's kitchen pulled together very nicely. She loves the warmth of the yellow in her new kitchen. She tells me how much easier it is to cook with all of her new appliances and loves the layout for ease of flow. Im delighted that I had the chance to work with Miss Nielson and giving her a kitchen makeover. I know I've done a job well done when my customer is satisfied.

3Form Material Solutions

My oh my! I found this company located in Salt Lake City and immediately fell in love. They do a lot with glass and resins making anything and everything. The beauty of their products is unreal. They have many different products in their lineup. One of them is Varia Ecoresin which is, a dynamic translucent resin panel. Choosing the right color, patter, texture, interlayer and finish to make your space pop with intrigue. Another, my personal favorite, is the Chroma series. This is made from 30% recycled content and is a bold solid surface that is saturated with luminous color, ideal for horizontal applications. They also have 100 percent, pressed glass, koda XT, stone and struttura. These products are fresh and really give your design that personality you have been seeking out. I love this company and will use them on all of my future designs. Not only is it brilliant but its is very eco-friendly. 

 This company can do beautiful ceiling hangings to add the extra texture and design to any room.

Warming Your Home

Fireplaces don't just keep you warm on those cold winter nights they also add a special touch to any room. With their fiery glow they can set the mood in your home. In the past fireplaces had a large hearth in which they would warm up by and cook their meals. Now you can do almost anything and everything with your fireplace. You can design it to fit your personality and your needs. Lets take a look at a few of my favorites I had found on Houzz.

Modern Home in Sugar House UT

This was a remodel I did in Sugar House. Mark Smith purchased this house and decided to completely renovate. There were walls ripped down, flooring torn out and electrical was rewired. He hired me to help out with the design of the kitchen. He told me he was from San Francisco and had a beautiful home there and wanted to make this one just as nice. So I got to work knowing his interests and what he would be using the kitchen for. We started with the flooring, since he was a bachelor I decided it safe to go with white marble flooring throughout the kitchen. We decided on birch wood for the cabinets and chose ebony for the stain. On the upper cabinets he decided he wanted something different then just black cabinetry throughout his whole kitchen. We went over to 3form Material Solutions and chose a blue textured resin to go in as the pane on his upper cabinetry. We are placing LED cabinet lights inside and under the upper cabinetry. We then went over to Marazzi Tile and checked out tile for the backsplash in his kitchen. As soon as Mark saw the "Soho" collection he fell in love. The tile with the lines etched into it we used for his side walls and the geometrically shaped tile we used for the center wall in which we would place the range and hood. The last thing we went looking for was the countertop. We went to Klein's custom countertops and picked out a beautiful Cambria Quartz counter with flecks of blue. The Blue worked perfectly with the blue we picked out earlier from 3form. Mark was really enjoying the color scheme we started to build with the white, black, grey and blue. After we had the countertops installed and saw how well the blue looked I knew right away what range his kitchen was yearning for. I picked out a 48" American Range and using the RAL color system we were able to match it directly to the blue flecks in the countertop. He was thrilled! I picked out the rest of the appliances accordingly to his budget. The other appliances were a Faber hood, Blomberg fridge, Blomberg dishwasher and a Sharp microwave drawer. After seeing the completed kitchen Mark told me what lighting fixtures he would like seen in the space. We used 3 small pendants and 2 large pendants to complete the lighting in his space. Mark was very satisfied with his kitchen and wanted me to return for designing his master bathroom. Stay tuned....

Tom Dixon has some beautiful light fixtures that are perfect for any contemporary home. The lamps look as if they were all inspired through an industrial atmosphere. Very unique and would definitely add brilliance to any room.  Lighting can make or break a room in my opinion, and if you want your room to be gorgeous then make sure you chose the right fixtures. 

Bocci

There is a lighting company that comes out of Vancouver, Canada that has the most gorgeous and unique lights. I have seen them downtown Salt Lake City at the Gallivan Center and inside Nordstrom's at City Creek. At Bocci they make it their goal to create practical but striking consumer goods of the highest quality. In this I believe they have succeeded. My favorite light is called "14". It is basically a glass blown ball with an integrated LED light in the center. The light can be strung by its self, with other lights all at different heights or all strung together to look like a bouqet. I love these lights and think they are gorgeous. They can work in any area of the home and make that room look glamourous.
