Its All In the Details

This is a great read for those who are wanting to remodel your kitchen but do not have the money to do so. You can do something as simple as adding details to your kitchen cabinets without having to break the bank. It is much easier to add something like a corbel to your island focal point. Corbels are so ornate and beautiful that they really can stand on their own without other decor around it. You can add an apron to your bar. The apron is a piece of wood that travels underneath the counter to add an accent. The apron is usually no more then 3" high. Another great way to revamp your kitchen is doing something as simple as adding decorative legs to your center island. This will really draw the attention again to your island as a focal point. Try some of these ideas out in your own home and let me know what you think.

Cellular Shades

Cellular shades bring clean lines, soft texture and filtered light to almost any room. These shades can cover standard windows, as well as sliding glass doors, skylights, arches and many other specialty shapes. They're ideal for living rooms, dining rooms, family rooms, kitchens and sunrooms.
Cellular shades are made from two or more layers of fabric woven together to create three-dimensional "honeycomb" cells. When closed, the shades provide privacy and turn harsh sun into soft, diffused light. When open, the shade fabric draws into a neat, thin stack to maximize your view. There are no visible cord holes - just one sleek, continuous look (even with wide widths). The unique cellular construction also adds insulation, making these shades energy-efficient and helping them to muffle noise.
You can choose your cellular shades according to how much light you desire. Semi-sheer shades allow the most light to filter through, while semi-opaque shades reduce the light somewhat and opaque shades reduce it a lot. All cellular shades provide privacy, though sheer and semi-opaque styles may allow shadows to show through the shades.
The soft fabric of cellular shades is easily vacuumed clean. If needed, spot clean cellular shades using a mild detergent. Never dry clean cellular shades.

I am loving these cellular shades and they are in a way just like roman shades.

Shower Tile

Yes I am talking about tile once again. There is just so much to say in regards to tile. This time however we want to cover the top ten things you want to consider when placing in your shower.

The first one is that you want to use smaller tiles when working with curves. If you are wanting a bench in your shower go with a smaller tile on the bench.

For the main seating area on your shower bench plan on using a slab or tile with a bull nose edge and the sharp edge of tile may not feel to comfortable on your legs.

Be careful when you are selecting mosaic tiles. You want to select ones that will have more than 95% contact from the tile to the wall. You don't want to trust the tile on a sheet of glue.

Try using smaller colored glass tile over large clear glass tiles. When you use the large clear glass tile it will start to look as if the moisture is trapped behind it.

Use a second tile choice to make a featured wall in your bathroom. This will be great and really add some character to your bathroom.

Use a smaller ceiling when building a arced ceiling in your shower. Some of the steam showers require having a sloped ceiling.

Consider universal design. Using a large tile that all goes in the same way can be a great way to keep your bathroom in style.

Keep cleaning in mind. If you are not wanting to clean much use porcelain tiles and large pieces of it for an easy clean.

Use your main tile to frame a second tile. Doing this is great if your main tile is not slip resistant.

Use smaller tiles for better traction

Tile in the Living Room

I know I have already said this but I love tile! It is so beautiful and can work in any room with any style. Here are some lovely living room designs with great tile showing them off. I just love the different textures and color that tile has to offer. It is so easy to clean and maintain unlike carpet (bleck!) and wood flooring.

Tile Pattern Layouts

Tile is one of my favorite materials for interior design. Tile can be any color and can look like anything. My two favorite tiles right now are the wood plank tiles and the runaway linen tiles. I thought I would just throw out all of these tile pattern layouts to you so you can get some great ideas for your next tile project. Bedrosian Tile and Stone is a great place to go and pick out the tile you need as well. Their showroom is staffed with people who have interior design backgrounds are great.
